Real Estate Photo Shoot Prep Checklist

Everything that needs doing before the camera arrives.

Preparation is the single biggest factor in how a listing photographs. Work through this interactive checklist room by room, tick items off as you go, and print or share it with the seller, tenant, or host before the ATXPhotoDude appointment.

Why prep matters

Preparation is the cheapest upgrade a listing gets

No amount of editing replaces a tidy, well-lit room. Ninety minutes of prep routinely adds more usable images to a gallery than any add-on.

More usable photos

Clear surfaces and open sightlines mean more angles work, so the final gallery is larger and stronger.

Faster on site

A prepped property shoots quickly, which keeps the appointment on schedule and the sellers out of the way for less time.

Better video and 3D

Continuous capture shows everything. Prep is what keeps a walkthrough or 3D tour feeling clean end to end.

Frequently asked questions

Prep questions we hear most

How long before the shoot should prep start?

For a well-kept home, an evening of tidying plus a quick morning pass is usually enough. Vacant, tenant-occupied, or heavily furnished properties are easier if prep starts a few days ahead.

What matters most if there is only an hour?

Clear kitchen and bathroom counters, make the beds, turn on every light, open the blinds evenly, and move the cars out of the driveway. Those five items change more photos than anything else.

Does the photographer move furniture or clean?

Light adjustments are normal — nudging a chair, removing a small item from a counter. Deep cleaning, staging, and moving large furniture should happen before the appointment.

Should the property be prepped differently for video or a 3D tour?

Yes. Video and 3D capture continuously, so clutter cannot be tucked just outside the frame. Closets, hallways, laundry rooms, and garages all matter, and interior doors should be set the way you want them.

Can I send this checklist to my seller?

That is exactly what it is for. Send the link, or use the print button to hand over a paper copy at the listing appointment.
